Thakurgaon (Bangladesh): An old Muslim couple, Suleiman,61, and his wife Noorjehan, 45, have been arrested by local police on Wednesday from their house in Shahpara on charge of hurting religious feelings.

Police said, Suleiman, a mason, and his wife hung out red and white cloth around their house, installed an idol of Goddess Kali inside their home, started pooja , and also recited the Holy Koran simultaneously.

The neighbours find this baffling, and on Wednesday ransacked the mason’s house. Police later detained the couple.

Said Noorjehan to News Bangladesh: “We are praying for wealth and children since long. A few days ago, we got orders in our dreams that we should perform Kali Pooja and Koran tilawat alongwith zikr-ajgar.”

Officer-in-charge of Sadar police station Mashiur Rehman said: “An individual cannot be a follower of two religions. They have been detained on charge of hurting religious feelings. They will be produced before the court and we will proceed accordingly.”
