Breaking centuries of tradition, Sri Vishweshatheerha Swami, the powerful pontiff of the Pejawar Mutt, has invited Dalits to witness the Paryaya (ritual) at the Udupi Sri Krishna temple.

The announcement by the swami, who is at the forefront of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, has surprised the followers of the Sri Krishna Temple, where discrimination on the basis of castes is rampant.

Contrary to popular perception, there is no discrimination while distributing Prasada (food) to the visitors to the temple. All castes and communities are treated as equal. Brahmins and Dalits are having food together at the Mutts. All discriminatory practices have been terminated, the swami added.
