Virginia has enacted House Bill 2783, criminalising Nazi symbols used to intimidate, while protecting the sacred Swastika from misrepresentation. The law, effective July 1, clearly distinguishes Hitler’s Hakenkreuz from the ancient Swastika, revered in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Advocacy by CoHNA led to critical amendments. The bill now sets a national precedent, balancing hate prevention with religious respect, and correcting a long-standing cultural and historical inaccuracy.
