With the extremely divisive American politics, which not only affects ordinary Americans struggling day by day but is also felt across global politics, because something is lacking, and that’s Dharma, which brings the balance that all need.
Of course, within the Hindu Dharmic perspective, the balance comes in the energy of the divine feminine, which is why an American Hindu lady known as Rakhi Israni is running for Congress in California, the same abode where the famous Swami Paramahansa Yogananda set his ashrams, like Lake Shrine and other places. Where, even recently, in Los Angeles, the local council named a neighbourhood as Vedanta Square in remembrance of Swami Vivekananda, who had visited there in 1899. Also, the Sathya Sai Baba organisation have set up a new temple there in Riverside, in 2023 called Sai Prema Nilayam, where his devotees do a lot of Dharmic seva like free health care programmes for the poor, free food for the homeless and so on. So, California, regardless of its problems, is a good ‘Dharmic’ starting point for an American Hindu lady who is rooted in her Hinduness without being apologetic about it like most Indians with a massive inferiority complex. Which is why the American Hindu community, along with other Americans there, should give her full support.

Dharma is how I lead my life. It is the commitment to just, righteous actions that sustain harmony and uplift those around us. I believe we have a duty to serve a purpose greater than ourselves and to stand firmly on the side of truth. My husband and I are passing that belief down to our four kids. It’s a value I see alive and well in our communities, but the tragedy is it’s missing in our politics.
