What far-right Christian fundamentalist Audrey Truschke had warned us about that global Hindutva is spreading shows up as proof, with superheroes Thor and Iron Man from the Avengers sending Diwali Wishes. Tony Stark- Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr.- is often seen at Hindu festivals and leans toward some Hindu practices, so maybe that’s why he’s now playing the villainous Dr Doom.
Hopefully, the Avengers will not join the RSS clown cult to march with potbellies in massive khaki shorts to embarrass Hindus further.
The next and highly-awaited chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Avengers: Doomsday, comes with delightful news for its Indian audience and a Diwali message from its two beloved cast members, Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans.
The film, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, is now officially set to arrive in India on December 17, a day before its release in the US.
In a YouTube video posted by Marvel India, Downey Jr., who plays Victor Von Doom, and Evans, who plays Steve Rogers, leave a heartfelt message, extending their Diwali wishes to their fans in India.
The video’s caption reads: “Diwali just got a whole lot more LIT! Robert Downey Jr. & Chris Evans have a special festive message for India, along with a dhamakedar tohfa. Avengers Doomsday now releases a day early in India on 17th December! Releasing in English, Hindi, Tamil & Telugu. THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS.
The 40-second video begins with Downey Jr. wishing “Namaste India,” after which Evans reveals that what they love most about the festival is that “it marks the closing of one chapter and the beginning of another.” Then, in classic Downey Jr. fashion, the actor delivers a comical revelation.
“That’s something we know a lot about. Except, instead of moving from dark to light, I think it might be going in the other direction,” he says. “Happy Diwali, and we’ll see you in Avengers: Doomsday…You bet!” they add.
