We are seeing the recent attacks on American Hindus for their festivals by Christian right-wingers, saying the USA is a Christian country, even though the founding fathers of the US rejected that, knowing the church’s long history. And then, since when has the USA been part of the Middle East, where Christianity is from? So were the US Indigenous natives really devout Christians all along, before the Europeans turned up?
California has become the third U.S. state to designate Diwali — the Hindu “Festival of Lights” — as an official statewide holiday. Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law Tuesday to go into effect on Jan. 1. It would authorise public schools and community colleges to close on Diwali.
