Minority rights activists demanded exemplary punishment to those involved in the vandalism of Hindu temples and houses across the country.They made the demand from a sit-in staged in front of the Jatiya Press Club Friday, protesting the recent vandalism of historic Swamibagh Temple in the capital.
The programme was jointly organised by National Hindu Mohajote, Hindu Jubo Mohajote and Hindu Chhatra Mohajote, according to a news agency.The protesters identified the culture of impunity for oppression on minorities as the main reason behind frequent attacks.
They demanded that cases of communal attacks should be shifted to the Speedy Trial Tribunal.They also demanded 50 reserved seats for minorities in parliament to ensure the rights of the Hindu community.Bishwa Hindu Parishad Bangladesh president Manoj Kumar Mondal, Hindu Mohajote secretary general Gobinda Chandra Pramanik, its joint secretaries Manik Chandra Sarkar and Dr Mrittunjaya Roy spoke on the occasion.
